Maritime Politics: Meet the new CIOTA president, Prince Segun Obayendo.

Prince Segun Obayendo is the Group Managing Director of Temple Group Limited, a privately held company with major interests in the transportation sector.

As a Nigerian entrepreneur and investor, Prince Segun Obayendo is the pioneer of the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service (CVIS) and the Drivers Testing Theory (DTT). He introduced these technology-driven services to the country in a bid to contribute to the Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS), effectiveness in determining the road worthiness of a vehicle and ascertaining the eligibility of the holder of a driver’s license.

His journey to the computerised vehicle inspection began in 1998 when his founding company, Temple Resources Limited was established to undertake and engage in Training and Capacity building, Haulage and Vehicle Testing Technologies among others.

In 2012, the company was licensed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to operate Computerized Vehicle Testing Centres in the territory. This led to the birth of the first Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre in Nigeria called Abuja Computerized Vehicle Testing Service (ACVTS) on the 1st of September 2014 through a public private partnership (PPP) model with the FCTA.

This public private partnership model has been explored to birth several computerized vehicle inspection services (CVIS) in some cosmopolitan states in the country. In addition to the Abuja Computerised Vehicle Testing Service.CVIS is operational in other states in the country.

The commencement of the computerised vehicle inspection has upgraded vehicle inspection to the 21st century standards of routine checks which includes emission test, brake test, suspension test, alignment test, underneath checks and many more in conformity with safety standards.

Prince Segun Obayendo has campaigned for the safety of Nigerians on the roads at different international summits and programmes such as:

 Nigerian-British Human Resources Management Summit (London)

 International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS)

 Nigerian – German Financial Administration Summit (Berlin)

 International Public Sector Accounting Standard (Istanbul Turkey) among many others.

He is a Fellow of the prestigious Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA), Member, Institute of Directors (IoD) , Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Associate Members of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), a Special Marshall of Federal Road Safety Commission and a Bureau Veritas Certified Vehicle Inspector.

He is also the founder of the Segun Obayendo Foundation, an organization with a mandate to make Nigeria one of the most united and peaceful countries of the world by promoting the initiative of a common language to break the language barrier that has negatively impacted the country’s unity.

He is ever prepared to offer his services, either as a consultant or service provider of Vehicle Inspection Technology to address safety of vehicles on the roads in Nigeria.
