In a strategic move to sustain momentum on ongoing reforms, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
Originally set to expire on August 31, 2025, the CG’s tenure will now continue until August 2026, a decision the Presidency says is aimed at consolidating major initiatives central to the administration’s trade and economic agenda.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the extension will allow Mr. Adeniyi to focus on:
Advancing the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service;
Driving the implementation of the National Single Window Project; and
Ensuring Nigeria fulfills its obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu praised Mr. Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressing confidence that the extension will further strengthen Customs’ capacity in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
